Tiger is a a young mixed-breed male dog who came to Home For Life® from The Animal Welfare League, a Chicago-based shelter. Tiger's original owners more or less starved him, and as a result, his bones did not grow properly.

Shakespeare is a handsome Old English Sheepdog who came to Home for Life due to alleged aggression. Complicating the situation was the fact that Shakespeare is a monorchid meaning that he has an undescended testicle and displays some characteristics of an unneutered male dog.
Lance is a Shar Pei/Whippet mix that came from an animal control facility in Illinois. Because of the Shar Pei's reputation as a fighting dog, not one rescue or shelter would take Lance, although he was only 18 months old. The animal control officer asked Home for Life to take him, but we initially declined, seeing no reason he could not be adopted.
Dottie is a pitbull mix that was euphemistically described as a "terrier" mix by the shelter where she landed as a pitiful stray.
Dottie is a medium-sized dog with a pristine short white coat and brindle spots, accented by a dot on the top of her head and freckles on her nose—hence her name. She is very feminine and gentle and athletic.
Leo, a handsome Australian shepherd, came to us from Colorado, where he had been taken in by private rescuers. They saved him after he had been hit by a car and was found on a Pueblo reservation, where a group of boys were beating him with sticks. His legs and hips were deformed and he could not walk.
Above: As a care for life sanctuary, Home for Life does not often have many puppies and kittens in residence. But Ben, a young German shepherd cross puppy, was a special case.
It's a sad truth that homeless black dogs and cats are adopted at lower rates and euthanized at higher rates than their more brightly colored shelter mates.
Bianca, whose name was originally “Charlee" came to Home for Life from a private home who surrendered her when they were compelled to move from their house due to economic hardship and a breakup of the family.
